A special evening
Livie & JocieMy daughters are spending the week with their grammy and papa this week. They were very excited about that as was my mom. It’s been awhile since they’ve stayed there for more than one night. Of course there have been a flurry of activities planned, but one in particular I’ve been very interested to hear about.
Last night while we were having a Tenebrae service at Crossroads. The girls were at a service at my parents’ church. A Seder meal, footwashing and communion were all going to be part of the service.
On the way home from our service, I called my parents. Mom gave me the details that I so wanted hear. I won’t give you all the details, but here is what I will share.
Every part of the service was done around the tables where they had the Seder meal. When it came time for footwashing, participants turned their chairs around began the ordinance.
Jocie and Livie washed each other’s feet. While I was not there to observe, I have a picture in my mind of them, each sister serving the other as she washed her siblings feet.
Communion was done by individuals serving another person at the table. At the table where the girls and my parents sat, as they finished up, it was discovered my dad had yet to be served. Livie Jocie was the one to serve him communion.
A beautiful, symbolic evening for the girls. My hope and prayer is the memory of last night’s service remains with them as they continue to grow as Christ followers.
